As a half-Mexican living in Switzerland for several decades, my artistic work deals with the different ideas and significances of death in various cultures. In Mexico, death is not a taboo, but often the subject of an ironic debate that is reflected with light-hearted representations in the form of a skeleton, among other things. My art explores death through a lens of overlooked and forgotten objects. For me, they reveal a profound connection between the past and present, highlighting the beauty in decay and the narratives embedded in the remnants of life. This practice not only serves as a means of artistic expression but also as a way to honor and give voice to stories that otherwise fade away, allowing others to engage with the history and emotions tied to these artifacts.
