As a research-based artist with a multidisciplinary practice, Manz's primary focus is on the mediation of hegemonic power relations through cultural practices. A theoretical and archive-based inquiry is interwoven with an experiment-driven studio practice, and the resultant findings are frequently disseminated via her website. Her ongoing work cycle examines the socio-psychological layers embedded in the motif of the ‘haunted woman’, viewed through the lens of literature, susperstition, neuroscience and parascience, feminist history, sound design, and feminist legal theory, with particular emphasis on gender bias in medicine and its psychosexual implications. It comprises a series of installations reminiscent of a ‘haunted house’ in which ultraviolet lights function as a narrative device.
